Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

With green apples and brandy snaps on the nose, this dram reveals more as you sip with notes of honeycomb, vanilla ice cream and pears to name a few.

Found just beyond the village of Portsoy, Glenglassaugh initially looks to be a pretty traditional setup with an open-topped rake and plough mash tun, wooden washbacks and two stills. Only the presence of two stainless steel washbacks (part of a 1966 refurb) alters the impression that little has changed.

It has had a winding history; built in 1874 but closed in 1907 during an industry downturn. It eventually reopened in 1960 but didn’t flourish in a blend-dominated market. It closed in ’86 but once again reopened, this time in 2008, to the pleasant surprise of many.
