The smallest wine appellation in Portugal, just west of Lisbon. Produced from a blend of up to nine different white and red varieties: Arinto, Gallego Dourado, and Ratinho, being the most common. It's elevage traditionally ranged from 10-20 years, with barrels more of less topped-up. Oxidative in character, today Carcavelos is among the rarest of wines, with just one active producer. It's bottles are rarely seen beyond the Portuguese borders.
