Pacific Edge - Our California Brands
Glen Breton Battle of The Glen 15 Yr Single Malt Canadian Whiskey
>> Return to the California Brands List
In 2000, shortly after Glenora Distillery released its first proudly labeled Glen Breton Rare, the Scotch Whisky Association launched a legal challenge, claiming that the use of the word “Glen” might mislead consumers into thinking it was Scotch. What followed was an international media storm — newspapers, magazines, online forums, and whisky blogs lit up with debate.
As the only Single Malt Whisky distillery in North America at the time, Glenora became a symbol of Canadian craft and cultural pride.
When Glenora ultimately triumphed in the summer of 2009, it marked more than just a legal victory — it was a defining moment in the history of Canadian whisky. To commemorate the battle, Glenora created a special bottling: Battle of the Glen. Its packaging proudly displays press clippings from around the world, capturing the story that put Glen Breton on the global stage.
