In an homage to Donn Beach & Vic Bergeron’s penchant for blending rums from different countries to use in their original tiki cocktails, we sourced three different rums (from three different countries, distilled at three different weights) to make Nanea: a mark with a fragrant nose, full rounded body with wonderfully developed flavors. For the body, we chose a fantastic, light rum from Guatamala that was aged for 2 years in ex-Bourbon barrels. We then added a smaller percentage of three-year aged rum from Guadaloupe in the French Caribbean that contributes rounder notes and honeyed caramel tones. The final component is a small percentage of a four-year aged rum from El Salvador that brings a spicyness and rich oak accent to Nanea (a rum we found extremely similar to the Havana Club 8-year Cuban rum in taste and overall profile).
We source all of our rums at cask strength, blend everything at our distillery in Kawaihae and proof both Huihui and Nanea with the same deep ocean water sourced off Keahole Point that we use in our Hawaiian Rum Agricole.
